East Riding Artists – Mission Statement
East Riding Artists (ERA) supports and encourages visual artists living and working within the East Riding of Yorkshire through a comprehensive programme of events, opportunities and networking. It aims to raise the profile of artists and makers and promote economic growth within the creative community.
ERA is a not-for-profit organisation. We operate a two-tier membership system: Associate and Full Members. Both can be publicised though our directory and website, and can enter work for ERA organised exhibitions. Full Members can have up to five images of their work on the website and two in the directory, plus an artist’s statement. Associates are allowed two images on the website and a short entry in the directory.
We aim to support professionalism and encourage artists to strive for excellence. This directory represents our current Full Members, and includes contact details for some of our Associate Members, and Galleries that support us.
Please contact individual artists directly to ask about their studio opening times, commissioning artwork, and other viewing and buying opportunities.
A bit of background…
East Riding Artists was formed in late 2005 by a group of practising visual artists, most of them working alone, and only rarely meeting up with other artists in a similar situation. An open meeting was called by a local curator and artist, which led to an enthusiastic group joining together to form a network.
We were fortunate enough to receive funding to assist us in setting up the organization, including developing our website, now our running costs are funded from membership fees and commission on exhibition sales.
Both this website (localhost/eastridingartists) and the printed ERA directory show examples of work by members. You can see some of what’s available and can make contact with any of the artists if you like, or commission an artwork.
The artists can keep in touch by email and on Facebook, and can advise each other of opportunities to exhibit, exchange technical and commercial information and can approach galleries to stage exhibitions by our members.
A committee of volunteers meets regularly to discuss opportunities and arrange events, exhibitions, talks, demonstrations etc., to offer things of interest to all members. Since 2008 we have operated as a not-for-profit company, and continue to rely on volunteers as directors and committee members.
